Darren graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA Fine Art in painting in 1997 before completing an MA in Creative Technology at Salford University. He subsequently worked in new media.

He returned to painting and printmaking recently. His work is often about small, intimate moments or places. It is usually figurative, but with a strong abstract sense and element of mystery. The people in his paintings are anonymous and/or not central; the moments fleeting. Light and colour are also key to the atmosphere of the paintings.
